Current Activities

Fall, 2008

Our focus since 2005 has centered on helping the Healing Water Bible Church ministry become more stabilized.  Many great experiences took place during this period.  One of the major items was the purchase of property so the church could have a home of their own.  In addition to that was the search for a Filipino pastor.  God graciously answered that prayer by bringing Pastor Jesse Arce and his family.  The growth of the ministry has been a blessing as the church began to grow and expand.  Now, three years later,  the property is already too small and the church is searching for larger quarters---a blessed problem.

June, 2006

At this stage in our lives we suddenly faced probably one of the greatest challenges we have ever known.  Our only daughter, Dianne, was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in the last stages.  This type of breast cancer had a 99% death rate, and humanly speaking, the prognosis was not good.  I hope to write soon about the experience and how God worked miracle after miracle in her life and ours.  After weeks and weeks of chemo, a double mastectomy and 33 radium treatments, it was an exciting day when two of her surgeons  saw her in such good health and said, "We cannot believe this!"  She has truly been the "miracle girl".  As she has stated, "I would not trade this experience for anything---though I would not want to do it again!"

Retirement

One of the illusions of retirement is that it is a time of relaxation, free time and easy living.  Sleep; travel; just do what you feel like doing; have a good time.  Tom retired from pastoring in 2001 and I retired from my position with the state of Delaware January, 2003.  For us, retirement means we have just changed the focus of our ministry..

As teenagers both Tom and I felt God's call and gave our lives to serve Him.  Both of us meant for a lifetime, not until we reach 65 years of age.  In our retirement, we have found a different way of serving, ---one we would never have dreamed of 10, 20, 30, or 40 years ago,---the Internet.

Through the Internet the message of the gospel can go into every nation.  It is possible that God can use Tom's fifty years of studying and preparing messages to help accomplish His purpose to reach the whole world with the gospel.

Now Tom spends a major portion of his time studying, rewriting and editing his sermons for the website and I spend most of my time putting them on the computer.  Both of us went back to college to gain computer skills and found it very rewarding.

Much of this year has been set aside preparing the first CD, Great Truths of the Christian Faith.  It is designed as a tool to help preachers.  Tom feels a great sense of gratification to be able to extend other young preachers the fruits of the many years he has studied and prepared sermons. The CD contains 27 sermons on the theme of Great Truths of the Christian Faith, and one sermon on Prophecy.  Each sermon is presented in different formats, which included making a power point presentation for each one. For amateurs like us this was an overwhelming challenge, but God brought into our lives a professional web designer, Dan Ondra.  Without his expertise and guidance, we could never have even attempted such a project.

Now Tom is working on a second CD on Prophecy.  It will have a similar format and sermons as the first.  Once again, Tom is studying, preparing sermons for me to type and put on the CD.

The ministry we feel God has put on our hearts is quite appropriate for our older years when our energy and stamina is not as strong as it was during our 30's and 40's.  At the same time we sense the burden of the ministry God has laid upon our hearts.  It is a joy to be able to still serve Him.
